Change of Plans

Sarah Thompson is a twenty-five year old girl on a mission: go to her friend’s office party, find an attractive guy and lose her virginity. When she meets rough and rugged Jason Hendricks, she knows she’s found her one-night-stand. Jason knows about MMA fights and boxing. He doesn’t know jack about virgins and wants to keep it that way. When Sarah turns out to be just that instead of the experienced vixen she led him to believe, he’s in for the shock of his life. Trying to move on from their disastrous night is easier said than done, as Jason’s guilty conscience can’t let the sweet, brown-eyed girl go. Determined to show her a good time, he tries to convince her that a redo of their time together is a must. Sarah is tempted, but can she stick to her promise and give in only to lust, or will she fall for the brooding fighter?

The doorbell rang and Sarah looked up from her desk. It was late afternoon and Vicky was still at work. Who could be visiting? She went to the door, asked who it was and heard Jason’s voice on the other side. She bit her bottom lip, unsure whether to open the door.
“What do you want?” she shouted to him, fidgeting with her bare feet on the wood floor.
“Can I come in?” he asked in response.
“Why?”
“So we can talk.”
She thought about it, then unlocked and opened the door.
“What are you doing here?” she asked, leaning against the door.
“We have unfinished business,” he said, looking her up and down. She was suddenly very aware of her black leggings and oversized white sweater. Not the sexy red dress he’d liked before, she thought self-conscious.
“Come in,” she said with a sigh and closed the door behind him.
Since she’d seen him at Nick’s party, he’d never been far from her thoughts, mostly because he had managed to annoy her once again. Seeing him at her apartment now was startling.
“How did you get my address?” she wanted to know.
He followed her into the living room. “Nick gave it to me.”
“Didn’t he think it strange that you asked for it?” she asked, sitting in her little reading nook by the window as opposed to on the couch, where he was making himself comfortable.
“I told him that you offered to help with revisions to my work contract,” he said, looking around.
That sounded pretty good. She was impressed. Without the tailored suit he’d worn the first time she laid eyes on him, he looked more imposing and intense. He was wearing a grey T-shirt and jeans, but his face seemed to have a permanent scowl etched in it, as though he was displeased or mad. That should have been a turnoff, but for some reason, she found it sexy and mysterious. She’d seen him smile at the office party, and that had suited him just as well. No matter what mood he was in, she had to concede that he was a very attractive man, faults and all.
“Since you’ve settled on stalking me,” she said, crossing her arms, “let’s hear what you have to say.”
“I am not stalking you,” he shot back gruffly. “We just have to talk.”
She looked at him expectantly.
His brows came down as though he didn’t know what to say next. “Why didn’t you tell me you were a virgin?”
“Because I’m not in the habit of walking around, making that announcement to anyone I come in contact with.”
“Fair enough,” he mumbled under his breath. “What were you thinking having a one-night-stand for your first time?”
She sighed impatiently. Vicky had already talked her ear off about this topic and she didn’t feel like going over it again.
“I don’t see why it should matter how I lose my virginity. It was my choice and now it’s done.”
“But shouldn’t you want, I don’t know, more?” he asked, leaning forward and resting his arms on his knees.
“More what?” she replied, smiling indulgently.
“Hell, I don’t know. More something,” he said, sounding frustrated. “I don’t have sex with virgins. I don’t know what you girls want.”
She pulled one leg up on the ledge and wrapped her arms around it. “I’m not a typical virgin, I suppose. I don’t need the romance or love, if that’s what you mean.”
He made a disbelieving face.
“I’m twenty-five. It was time I had sex, and the easiest and fastest way to do it was to have a one-night-stand.”
“Jesus,” he said, standing. “I never heard a girl talk like that before.” He moved around the room, looking at nothing in particular.
“Maybe you should get out more,” she said, unable to keep from smiling again.
He turned to lock eyes with her. “Why’d you pick me?”
She felt herself blush. “Because you were the first attractive guy I saw.” And because he’d made her heart beat really fast and her stomach flutter and all sorts of reasons she wasn’t going to give him.
“But had I known how our evening would turn out and how you’d act, I probably would have picked someone else,” she said thoughtfully.
“How I acted?” he said from across the room.
“You weren’t exactly a gentleman,” she pointed out.
“And you didn’t look like a lady,” he shot back.
She pressed her lips together. Darn Vicky and her stupid plan. So much for dressing the way they had.
“That doesn’t mean that we’re even,” she said, lowering her leg again and grasping the edge of her seat with both hands.
“So what do you want me to do? Apologize?”
A sigh escaped her.
“I’m sorry I acted like an idiot and left you alone at the party,” he grumbled.
She shook her head in response. “I don’t need you to do anything anymore, and an apology is not necessary. I’ll simply have to find someone else to finish what you started.”
He crossed the room in a couple of strides to loom over her. “What the hell do you mean?”
She stood, looking him in the eyes. “Although I’m no longer a virgin, our time together hardly counts as having sex. I want to experience everything there is to experience. I’ve watched plenty of adult movies to know there is more.”
The look on his face was priceless. “You watched porn?”
“Yes,” she said defensively.
He looked amused. “Why?”
“For educational purposes,” she said, sticking out her chin.
He laughed out loud.
“That’s not funny,” she said annoyed.
“It’s hilarious, actually.”
“Well, since you failed to keep your end of the bargain, I’ll have to find someone else to do whatever I watched.”
His smile faltered, then disappeared altogether. “I didn’t fail to do anything and there was no bargain to speak of.”
She tried to move since they were standing much too close together, but he shifted to block her path.
“And since you insist on finishing what we started, there’s only one person for you to do that with, and that’s me,” he said, invading her space.
“Who said I want to have sex with you again?” she asked, looking up into his eyes.
“I know you do.”
That was true, but she wasn’t going to tell him that.
“You didn’t make the best impression the first time,” she said, shifting her gaze from his eyes to his lips. Lord, she remembered he’d kissed like a man possessed. She’d give anything for another kiss right now.
“All the more reason to do it again,” he said, brushing a curl away from her shoulder.
“I doubt the second time will be better,” she mumbled distracted.
He caressed her bottom lip with his thumb, sending tingles all through her body. “Baby, you have no idea what I’m capable of.”
Just as he started to lean down to kiss her, the doorbell rang. She exhaled loudly and stepped aside, then rushed to open the door and Vicky waltzed in.
“What a day,” she said, sounding breathless. “My jerk of a boss wanted an update on every single stupid project I’ve been working on and then traffic was a disaster.”
Sarah tried to get a word in, but Vicky walked right by her, dropping her purse on the floor in the hallway and heading into the living room. “I need a drink.”
When she noticed Jason standing by the window, she stopped in her tracks, turned and stared at Sarah wide-eyed.
“Sorry, I didn’t realize you had company.”
“Yeah, I was just about to tell you,” Sarah said with a smile. “Vicky, you remember Jason from your work party?”
“I’m Kristin’s brother,” he said, stepping forward.
Vicky turned to smile at him. “Yeah, good to see you again.”
There was an awkward silence as Sarah walked into the room to stand in the middle of them.
“So what’s going on?” Vicky asked, looking around as though trying to decide whether or not to sit.
“He came over to drop off some movies,” Sarah blurted out.
Vicky grinned. “Okay.”
“I should get going,” he said, heading toward the door. Sarah followed him as Vicky mouthed “holy shit” to her.
“See you later,” he said to Vicky from the door.
“Yep,” Vicky shot back before going to sit on the couch.
Sarah leaned against the door as he stepped out. “Thanks for the movies,” she said amused.
He turned to face her. “Don’t think we’re done here.”
“Oh, we’re done, Jason,” she replied, goading him.
He wrapped an arm around her waist, pulled her hard against him and crushed her lips with his. Just in case she’d forgotten what his kisses were like, he set her memory straight. She melted into him and would’ve done just about anything he was willing to show her. He ended their kiss just as abruptly and she stood breathless in the doorway.
“We’re not done,” he said, looking into her eyes. Before she had the chance to gather her thoughts, he took off.
